Hardwick (Clumber Park) - St Mary the Virgin Chapel
The Gothic-style chapel was built by Bodley and Garner in the country estate of the 7th Duke of Newcastle. The house was demolished c1938 and the church was closed. However, the church was reopened when the estate was taken into the ownership of the National Trust in 1954. The memorial is a wooden triptych. The centre panel has a crucifix and the inscription: 'For God, King, & Empire. Greater love hath no man than this. Per crucer ad lucem' ('Through the cross to the light.') The left wing has the Roll of Honour of 24 names.
