Family History

William Arthur Toynton was born in 1898 at Nottingham and was the son of William a house painter and Clara Toynton née Fidler of 179 Vernon Road, Old Basford, Nottingham. His father William was born in 1874 at Nottingham, his mother Clara Fidler was born in 1876 also at Nottingham, they were married in 1896 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration district, they went on to have have the following children all born in Nottingham, Maud b1901, Ada b1903, Leslie b1905, Eva b1906, Hilda b1910, Lily b1911, Grace b1911, Clara b1914, Alfred b1915, Walter b1916 and Fred Toynton b1918. In the 1911 census the family lived at 21 Athorpe Grove Basford Nottingham and are shown as William 37 yrs a house painter, he is living with is wife Clara 35 yrs and their children, William Arthur 13 yrs a bakers assistant, Maud 10 yrs a scholar, Ada 8 yrs a scholar, Leslie 6 yrs, Eva 5 yrs, Hilda 1 year and Lily 11 months old.

Military History

Private William Arthur Toynton enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Basford, he initially served with the service number 2252 in the South Notts Hussars later transferring to the 1st battalion The Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire Regiment) he died on 17th November 1918 and is buried at Caudry British Cemetery
