Family History

He was the son of Emily Ada Rhodes and the late J Ward Rhodes. They had lived at 161 Gregory Boulevard Nottingham and Mrs Rhodes later moved to 15 Melville Rd .Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Military History

He was probably killed in the attack on the Hohenzollern Redoubt during the Battle of Loos. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.

Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged), 25 October 1915: 'Rhodes. Killed in action October 13th, Sapper HS Rhodes, 69th Field Co. Royal Engineers, son of Mrs Rhodes, 161 Gregory Boulevard, age 24 years.'
