Family History

John Roberts Coleman was born on 16th April 1899 in Nottingham and he was the son of John Bowley a head teacher and Florence Annie Coleman née Jackson of 29 Derby Grove Lenton Sands Nottingham.His father John Bowley was born in 1866 in Chilwell and his mother Florence Annie Jackson was born in 1872 in Nottingham , they were married in 1896 in Nottingham, they went on to have 6 children , sadly one died in infancy their surviving children were all born in Nottingham and were : John Roberts b1899, Marjorie Bertha b1903, Dorothy Mary b1905, George Edward b1910 and Florence Eugene b1910.In the 1911 census the family are living at 29 Derby Grove, Nottingham and are shown as John Bowley 45 yrs a head teacher, he is living with his wife Florecne Annie 39 yrs and their children, John Roberts 11 yrs a scholar, Marjorie Bertha 8 yrs, Dorothy Mary 6 yrs, George Edward 1 yr and Florence Eugene 6 months, also living with them is Hannah Parr 16 yrs a general servant.

Military History

Second Lieutenant John Roberts Coleman was gazetted to his rank on 29th May 1918 and served with the Special Brigade Royal Engineers, he died at No. 10 Stationary Hospital Tourcoing on 26th November 1918 of pneumonia . He is buried in Tourcoing (Pont-Neuville) Communal Cemetery.
