Family History

John Frederick Beazley was born in 1896 at Mansfield he was the son of Fred and Annie Ethel Beazley née Spencer of 1 Greenwood's Yard, Ratcliffe Gate, Mansfield. Fred was born in 1877 at Pinxton, Annie Ethel Spencer was born in 1878 they were married on 11th July 1896 at St John's church, Mansfield. In 1911 Annie Beazley is a housekeeper she is living at Greenwood, Yard, Ratcliffe Gate, Mansfield , she is shown as being 32 yrs, married and a housekeeper for the head of the family John Allsop 33 yrs, single and a plasterer, with her is her son John Frederick Beazley 14 yrs coal miner at Crown Farm Pit.

Military History

Private John Frederick Beazley enlisted on 9th February 1915 at Mansfield giving his age as 19 yrs and 128 days, he was a coal miner residing at 1 Greenwood Yard, Ratcliffe Gate Mansfield. He was posted to the Royal Scots Fusiliers and reported to their depot at Ayr. He landed in France on 8th June 1915 and was reported missing between 21st and 29th September 1915 officially reported died of wounds on 30th September 1915. He is buried at Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France.

Extra Information

Died of wounds received at the Battle of Loos. (source: Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser- 10/12/1916) His father Frederick served in the Kings Royal Rifle Corp in France. His records show he was wounded by GSW (gunshot wound) blast with head and jaw injury on 25th July 1916 and sent 'home' on 31st July 1916. Discharged 15th August 1917, he died in 1947 aged 70 years.
