Family History

Frederick was born at Daybrook in 1898, and was the son of Edward a railway platelayer and Ellen Bagguley née Huskisson Harston of 65 Duke Street, Daybrook, Nottingham. Edward was born in 1859 at Elston, Nottinghamshire and worked on the Great Northern Railway as a platelayer, his wife was also born in 1859 at Syerston they were married in 1882 at Arnold and had 4 children , sadly one died in infancy prior to 1911. Frederick had a brother Charles who was born 1886 in Stoke Bardolph who worked as brickyard labourer and one sister Sarah who was born in 1892 in Daybrook, Arnold. In the 1911 census the family are living at 39 Byron Street, Daybrook, Arnold and are shown as :- Edward 52 yrs a railway platelayer, he is living with his wife Ellen 52 yrs and their children Sarah 19 yrs a lace net mender and Fred 12 yrs a scholar. Charles has now left the family home , he was married in 1907 to Maria , and has a child George Edward born 1908 in the 1911 census the family are shown living at Ivy Cottage, Byron Street , Daybrook and shown as George 25 yrs a coal miner , living with his wife Maria 24 yrsand their son George Edward 3 yrs

Military History

Frederick enlisted in Nottingham into the 17th battalion of the Sherwood Foresters. During the battle for Beaumont Hamel on July 1st 1916 Frederick was seriously wounded he was brought in and sent to the battalion Aid Post from where he was sent back to a Field Hospital and subsequently back to hospital in England. He survived for over 10 weeks before succumbing to his wounds on the 11th September aged 18 years.
