Family History

Thomas was born in Arnold in 1889, the son of Thomas (senior) a labourer and Emma Allcock (nee Martin ) of Chestnut Villas, Front Street, Arnold, Nottingham. His father Thomas (senior) was born in Foston, Lincolnshire, his mother Emma Martin was born in 1861 in Arnold, they were married in 1878 in Arnold and went on to have 10 children , sadly one died in infancy prior to the 1911 census, the surviving children were: - Annie b 1880, Elizabeth b1882, William b1883, Arthur b1885, Lily b1887, Thomas b1889, Emma b1891, Martha b1892 and John b1894 all the children were born in Arnold In the 1911 cencus we find Thomas (junior) at an address at Westhouses near Alfreton,Derbyshire, he is shown as being 24 yrs of age and born in Arnold, he is a servant living with a family by the name of Downing, his occupation is shown as farm labourer and horseman. His family are living at the 'The Chestnuts' in Arnold and are shown as Thomas aged 53 yrs an agricultural labourer , he is living with his wife Emma 50 years and six of their children, William 28 yrs a colliery banksman, Arthur 26 yrs a brewers waggoner, Lily 24 a hosiery worker/finisher , Emma 20 yrs a hosiery worker/finisher , Martha 19 yrs a hosiery worker and John 17 yrs a colliery banksman. His mother Emma died in 1914 in Arnold aged 53 yrs and his father Thomas (senior) died in 1936 aged 80 yrs

Military History

He enlisted in Derby and served with the 23rd Battalion (Tyneside Scottish ) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers and was killed in action on 9th April 1917 at Roclincourt ,Arras. He has no known gave, his name is commemorated on the Arras memorial His elder brother William also served and died during the Great War
