Family History

Lawrence was born in 1891 in Arnold and lived at Kelk's Yard Front Street Arnold. He was the son of William and Hannah Hartshorn née Turner who lived at Queen Street, Arnold. . his father a frame work knitter had been born in 1858 in Arnold and his mother Hannah Turner had also been born in 1858 also in Arnold, they had another 9 children all of whom were born in Arnold area , they were : - Henry b1877, Emma 1879, William b1881, Leonard b1884, Percy b1886, Edward b1888, Bernard b1892, Ada b1896 and Florence b1898. In 1914 he married Harriet Burton, she brought a child to the marriage William Burton born August 1910 and they had a son Harold born June 1916 . His widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week commencing on 9th October 1916. Following Lawrence death his widow Hannah remarried in 1918 to Tom Webster and they lived at Stanfield Yard Front Street Arnold Nottingham.

Military History

Private Lawrence Hartshorn enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 17th Battalion (Welbeck Rangers ) Sherwood Foresters. He died on 23rd March 1916 he was fatally wounded by an accidental gun discharge. He is buried in Sailly-Sur-La-Leys Canadian Cemetery, France grave reference I B 24
