Family History

Thomas was born in 1887, in Arnold, the son of Charles a frame work knitter and Hannah Cooper née Marshall of 27 Albany Road, Carrington, Nottingham. Both his father Charles and mother Hannah Marshall were born in 1845 in Arnold, they were married in 1868 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 14 children, sadly 7 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children were Annie b1873, Elizabeth b1875, Jane b1876, Mary b1878, Lucy b1879, Charles b1881, Samuel b1883, Sarah b1885, Thomas b1887 and Emma b1890 all were born in Arnold. In the 1911 census the family are living at 27 Albany Road, Carrington they are shown as Charles 66 yrs a frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Hannah 65 yrs and their children, Charles 29 yrs an engineer, Thomas 24 yrs working in a bleachworks and Emma 21 yrs a lace pattern girl.

Military History

Private Thomas Cooper enlisted at Gainsborough whilst residing at Carrington, he served with the 5th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He spent some time in the hospital at Harpenden, which is where he died on the 8th December 1915 from Pneumonia. The Harpenden area was a favoured area for the holding and training of troops in readiness to send over to France, possibly Thomas had been hospitalised during this training prior to his battalion being sent to France. He is buried in, Redhill Cemetery
