John Tom was the husband of Annie Rebecca Richards née Mear (b. 3 August 1886) and the father of Reginald Mear b. 18 June 1909, John James b. 26 May 1912, Elsie b. 7 December 1913 and Winnie b. 26 August 1915. The family lived on Sherwood Street, Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire.

Military History

Private John Tom Richards served initially with the 12th (Pioneer) Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment. He was later posted to 6th Battalion King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. He died in Mesopotamia [Iraq] on 13th August 1916 and was buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq (grave ref. IX. B. 8).
