Family name variously spelt as Izzitt, Izzett, Hissitt & Hissett George Edward Izzitt was born in 1891 and was the son of George a labourer and Mary Izzitt née Islam Father, George, born in 1860 in Helpringham, Lincs was an Ironstone Quarryman and died in 1899 at Long Clawson, his mother, Mary Isam, was born in 1851 in Long Clawson they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Melton Mowbray registration district. In 1891 Census the family were living at Melton Road, Long Clawson In 1901 Mary, George & Charles all living with Charles & Sarah Spencer at Colston Bassett where Charles Spencer is shown as a Waggoner on a farm. In 1911 Mary Hissitt is living as a widow with her daughter Sarah Elizabeth and Son in Law, Charles Spencer & family in Long Clawson, Charles Spencer was born in Langar in 1866 In 1911 brother, John Robert living Nettleham, Lincs as a boarder with Jane Cooper & family. He is working as a bootmaker Charles Izzitt was a passenger from Liverpool to New York on White Star Line Ship " Celtic" 27 May 1911. He is shown as being single and a Labourer. Mary Hissitt was buried in Langar 27/11/16 aged 67

Military History

Private George Edward Izzitt enlisted at Newark whilst residing at Barnstone, he initially served with the service number 35273 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 22nd March 1918 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France.
