Family History

Leonard Percy Clements was born in 1886 at Eastwood and was the son of William Thomas a colliery banksman and Sarah Clements née Worrall of Main Street Newthorpe Nottinghamshire. His father William Thomas was born in 1858 at Sheffield, Yorkshire, his mother Sarah Worrall was born in 1860 in Northamptonshire, they were married in 1878 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district. They went on to have the following children, William b1884, Percy b1886, Margaret b1889, Henry b1891, Albert b1894, Ellen b1896 and Alice b1898 all were born in Eastwood. In the 1911 census the family are living at Main Street, Newthorpe and are shown as William 53 yrs a colliery banksman, he is living with his wife Sarah 50 yrs and their children, Margaret 22 yrs no occupation listed, Henry 20 yrs a coal miner, Albert 17 yrs a coal miner, Ellen 15 yrs no occupation, Alice 13 yrs a scholar. Leonard married Elizabeth Bridget Fidler (born December 1884) whom he married in 1909 at Nottingham, they lived at 41 Rydal Grove Vernon Avenue Basford Nottingham and had a daughter Annie Elizabeth Clements born 7th November 1909. In the 1911 census Percy is living at 10 Ratcliffe Street, Eastwood, he is shown as Percy 25 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 25 yrs and their daughter Annie 1 year of age. Following his death his widow Elizabeth was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 28th April 1919. His widow late re married to become Elizabeth Hallam

Military History

Private Leonard Percy Clements enlisted at Nottingham and served with The Dorset (Queen's Own) Yeomanry. He died on 13th October 1918, of exhaustion whilst on active service (Pension record card) his name is commemorated on the Chatby memorial Egypt.
