George Thomas Roe

George Thomas Roe was born in 1888 at Arnold and was the son of Alfred a colliery banksman and Sarah Roe née Wood of Church Lane, Arnold, His father Alfred was born in 1864 at Harby, Lincolnshire, his mother Sarah Wood was born in 1862 at Arnold, they were married in 1884 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Arnold, Ada b1885, George Thomas b1889, William Henry b1890, Sarah Jane b1894, Henry b1897, Florence b1899 and Ethel b1902. In the 1911 census the family are living at Church Lane, Arnold and are shown as Alfred 37 yrs a colliery banksman, he is living with his wife Sarah 49 yrs and their children, Ada 26 yrs a hosiery winder, William Henry 21 yrs a garden labourer, Sarah 17 yrs a blouse machinist, Henry 14 yrs a colliery banks lad, Florence 13 yrs at home and Ethel 9 yrs a scholar. George Thomas married his wife Elizabeth Annie Anthony (born 1887 ) in 1908 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 44 Daybrook Square, Sherwood they had two children Elizabeth Annie b1911 and Frederick William b1914 In the 1911 census George Thomas is living Lane Arnold with his wife , they aare shown as George Thomas Roe 22 yrs a coal miner hewer he is living with his wife Elizabeth Ann 23 yrs Following his death his widow Elizabeth Annie was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week which commenced on 12th November 1917.
