Samuel John Hough

Samuel was born at Arnold in 1886, the son of John a Frame work knitter and Louisa Hough née Marshall , of Surgey’s Lane, Arnold, Nottingham. His father was born in 1855 in Arnold , his mother Louisa was born Bedford in 1853 and they were married in Arnold in 1883 and went on to have 5 children , who were: - Harry b1885, Samuel b1886 , Albert b1888, Gertrude b1890 and Ethel b1891, all the children were born in Arnold. His mother Louisa died in Arnold in 1909 aged 57 yrs. In the 1911 census Samuels father is living at Burford Cottages, St Albans Road, Arnold , he is shown as John 56 yrs a widow a frame work knitter , he is living with three of his children , Albert 23 yrs single and a coal miner, Gertrude 21 yrs single and a laundress and Ethel 20 yrs single and also a laundress . Samuel has left the family home on marriage and in the 1911 Census, he is shown as being 25 years of age and a coal miner, living at 74 Sanford Cottages, St Albans Road with his wife Hannah (nee Godfrey) . He married Hannah Godfrey at the parish church in Daybrook on 3rd September 1911 and had a son Frank born November 1911 in Basford . At the time of his death his wife was living at lived at 10 High Street Avenue, Arnold. On 17th March 1916 his widow Hannah received a letter from the War Office dated 17th March 1913 , informing her that she would be receiving a pension of 17 shillings and six pence in relation to her and her child, with effect from 26th 20th March 1916.
