Harold Grundy

Harold was born in 1890 in Redhill, the son of David a pit deputy in a coal mine and Annie Grundy née Pilkington who lived at Redhill. His father David was born in 1849 in Culcath, Lancashire and his mother was born in 1855 in Nottingham , they were married in 1872, their marriage is recorded in the Radford Registration District, they went on to have a large family of 11 children , one of whom died in infancy or childhood prior to 1911, their children were :- William b1874 Lenton, Elizabeth b1875 Lenton, Alice b1876 Bulwell, John Thomas b1879 Town Green Lancashire, Lucy b1881 Lenton, Harry b1883 Arnold, Edward Royce 1885 Arnold, Harold b1890 Arnold, Annie b1894 Arnold and Winifred b1896 Arnold. Between the 1891 and 1911 census they live at Osbourne Cottages, Redhill and on the 1911 census are shown as David 62 yrs head of the family a pit deputy, he is living with his wife Annie 56 yrs a hosiery worker and three of their children , John Thomas 32 yrs a coal miner, Annie 17 yrs a rotary frame worker and Winifred 15 yrs a blouse maker. In the 1911 census Harold had left home and was a soldier with the Grenadier Guards and was with his battalion (1st Battalion) in barracks in London.
