Family History

William was born at Arnold in 1895, the son of Jesse and Harriett Forrest of 31 James Street, Arnold, Nottinghamshire, with whom he was living prior to enlisting in the army. In the 1911 census his whole family are living with his brother in law Stephen Sneap at Gordon Villas, High Street ,Arnold, he is shown as being 16 yrs and a coal miner his father Jesse is shown as a framework knitter. He was educated at the Robert Mellors School Arnold.

Military History

He enlisted at Nottingham into the Sherwood Foresters his County Regiment, with regimental number 4791. However, at some time later he was transferred into the 10th Battalion The Royal Warwickshire Regiment He was killed during trench shelling.

His name is commemorated at the Thiepval memorial on the Somme
