Leonard Denham

Leonard was born in 1893, at Arnold, the son of the late Joseph a framework knitter and Elizabeth Denham née Robinson of Blatherwicks Yard, Front Street, Arnold, Nottingham. His father Joseph was born in 1856 in Woodborough and his mother Elizabeth Robinson was born in 1856 also in Woodoborough, they were married in 1875 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have 11 children sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children all of whom were born in Arnold were ,Mary Ann b1876, Rebecca b1878, Elizabeth b1881, Sarah Jane b1883, Eliza b1888, Millicent b1889, Joseph Herbert b1891, Leonard b1893 and George Walter b1899. In the 1911 census Elizabeth is shown as the head of the family who are living at St Albans Road, Arnold she is shown as being 55 yrs of age married she is shown living with her children, Joseph Herbert 20 yrs a coal miner, Leonard 18 yrs a butchers assistant , George Walter 12 yrs a scholar and Annie 10 yrs a scholar. In the same 1911 census we find his father, he is shown as being married 52 yrs a frame worker knitter, he is boarding at the Church Army Home at 30 Peel Street, Nottingham together with numerous other 'boarders' His father Joseph died in 1913 in Nottingham, he was 56 yrs of age.
