Family History

Alfred was born at Atherstone, in Warwickshire, in 1879, the son of George Edward and Maria Chapman (nee Orill) . At some time he moved to Arnold where he lived with his wife Alice Maria Chapman,(nee Moore who was also born in 1879 in Arnold ) at 25 Cross Street, Arnold, Nottingham. In the 1911 census he is shown living with his family at 2 Agatha Cottages, Brierely St. His occupation is that of a platelayer for the Midland Railway and is 32 yrs he has been married to his wife for seven years and they have one daughter Gladys born 1895 .

Military History

Alfred enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 67th Field Company Royal Engineers and it was with them that he was killed in action on the 22nd September 1916.
