Family History

Thomas Cyril Woodford was born in 1897 at Willoughby and was the son of Elizabeth Woodford of Willoughby. His mother Elizabeth was born in 1870 and lived with her parents at Church Lane Willoughby. His mother Elizabeth married Thomas Henson Cooper in 1904 at Willoughby, they went on to have the following children, Annie b1905, Percy b1907 and Gertrude b1912. Following Thomas's death his mother was residing at 39 High Cliff, Colwick Vale, Nottingham.

Military History

Lance Corporal Thomas Cyril Woodford enlisted at Nottingham on 3rd October 1914, giving a false age of 19 yrs and three months, he was posted to the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters and landed in France on 28th February 1915. He was promoted to Lance Corporal (unpaid) on 19th April 1916 and was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme 1st July 1916. He is buried in Foncquevillers Military Cemetery.
