Robert was born in 1897 the son of John Robert Buckland a coachman/domestic and Lucy Ellen Buckland (née Manchester). John was born in 1870 in Thoroton and Lucy also in born 1870 in East Bridgford. Prior to their marriage Lucy was a cook at Car Colston vicarage for the Reverend Alex Eccles Auchinleck. Robert was the brother of John William (b. 1896), Charles S (b. 1898), George E M (b. 1901) and Dorothy A M (b. 1905) Buckland. All the children were born in Car Colston and the family lived there in 1901 and 1911.

Military History

Robert enlisted in Leeds. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial on the Somme.
