Ernest Woodhead

Ernest Woodhead was born in 1893 at Radford and was the son of Samuel an iron turner and Caroline Woodhead née Sedgewick of 11 Smith Street, Nottingham. His father Samuel Woodhead was born in 1868 at Nottingham and his mother Caroline Sedgewick was born in 1869 at Birmingham, they were married in 1889 in Nottingham and went on to have 7 children, 1 sadly died in infancy or early childhood, their children were George Edward b1890, Ernest b1893, Elsie b1899, Gladys B1902 and Caroline b1905, all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 11 Smith Street, Nottingham and are shown as Samuel Woodhead 43 yrs an iron turner, he is living with his wife Caroline 42 yrs and their children, George 21 yrs a labourer in the cycle trade at Raleigh, Ernest 17 yrs a driller in the cycle trade at Raleigh, Elsie 11 yrs a scholar, Gladys 9 yrs a scholar and Caroline 6 yrs. Ernest married his wife Ida Elizabeth Hayes in 1916 in Nottingham, they went on to have a daughter Ida Elizabeth Hayes born 1916 and they lived at 11, Hague Terrace, Hague Street, Old Radford, Nottingham. Following his death his widow Ida received a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week for her and her daughter.
