William Edward Tee was the son of James Tee and Sarah Smith who married at Nottingham in 1883. Their children included: Frances May (b.1884/d.1884), James Sidney (b.1885), William Edward (b.1887), Jane Ellen (b.1890), Amelia (b.1893/d.1902), George (b.1895), Anthony (b.1899/d.1899), Bernard Sylvanus (b.1900/d.1901) and Leslie (b.1904). The Tee family lived at: 29 Miall Street, Old Radford [C.1891]; 6 Cricketer’s Cottages, Bright Street, Radford [C.1901]; 56 Bramcote Street, Radford [C.1911]. James Tee worked as gas yard labourer [C.1901] and as a farm labourer [C.1911]. What subsequently happened to him or his wife, Sarah, is unclear. On 11 May 1916 William Edward Tee married Ethel Mary [Polly] Pedley at Radford St Peter’s Church.Their home became 7 Beresford Street, Radford [Army records/1916 & 1921]. The couple don’t appear to have had any children. Mary Ethel Tee never remarried and her home address at the time of her death in August 1961 was 79 Drake Avenue, Dines Green, Worcester. She was 75 years of age.
Having initially served as a territorial in the 4th Bn. Sherwood Foresters he enlisted at Nottingham on 25 February 1905 in Army Service Corps; having served 7 years as a Driver with the colours he was transferred to the Army Reserve on 24 February 1912; mobilised at Woolwich on 6 August 1914; sent to France on 14 August 1914; appointed acting lance corporal on 24 April 1916; however reverted to the rank of Driver on 9 August 1916; was in Brook Hospital, Woolwich from 10 August to 22 September 1916; discharged from the Army on 28 September 1916 having valvular disease of the heart which was aggravated by active service; died at his home in Radford on 28 January 1918 from heart disease; buried at the General Cemetery, Nottingham.
His brother, Sergeant James Sidney of the 1st Bn.Sherwood Foresters died 9 February 1915. In memoriam published 30th January 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “TEE. – Dvr. W. E.Tee, Army Service Corps, who died January 28th of heart disease, caused through shell shock, aged 30.
