Ernest James Singleton

Ernest James Singleton was the son of James Singleton and Julia Ann Boldoc who married at Nottingham in 1865. Their children included: Mary A. (b.1866), Julia Ann (b.1870), Sarah Minnie (b.1873), Charles Frederick (b.1874), Kate Gertrude (b.1877), Ernest James (b.1880), Ethel Florence (b.1883) and Herbert (b.1889). The Singleton family lived at: George Street, Radford [C.1871]; 30 Guthrie Street, Radford [C.1881];14 Butler Street, Old Radford [C.1891]; 16 Butler Streeet, Radford [C.1901 & C.1911]. James Singleton, who was employed as a general labourer, latterly working for the Nottingham Corporation, died at Nottingham in 1918, age 76. In 1919 his widow, Julia Ann, was living with her son, Charles Frederick Singleton, at 6 Leengate, Old Lenton [Army records/1919]. She died at Nottingham, aged 79 in 1925. On 27 December 1909 Ernest James Singleton married Clara Elizabeth Blagdon at Nottingham Register Office. In 1911 the couple were living at 54 Bramcote Street, Radford. They had one child, Harry Frederick (b.1912), but he was to die at the age of 3 in late 1915. The death notice inserted in the local newspaper for Ernest James Singleton gave his widow’s address as 3 Croft’s Place, St Peter’s St. Old Radford [n.e.p.17.11.1914]. Army records later gave her address as: 30 Parker Street, New Radford [1919]. Clara Elizabeth Singleton died at Nottingham, aged 36, in 1921.
