Family History

Willie Robson was the son of Thomas Turner Robson and Eliza Brittain who married at Leeds in 1890. Their children included: Florence Beatrice (b.1891), Willie (b.1892), Mabel Gertrude (b.1902), Ethel May (b.1904), Winifred Gladys (b.1906) and George Brittain (b.1913). The family lived at 27 Kings Road, Headingley, Leeds [C1891]; 141 Bobbers Mill Road, Hyson Green [C.1901]; 110 Garfield Road, Radford [C.1911 & Army records/1920]. Thomas Turner Robson, who worked as a jobbing joiner, died at Nottingham, aged 89, in 1956. Hs wife, Eliza, predeceased him, dying at Nottingham in 1923, aged 53.

Military History

He enlisted at Nottingham on 7 September 1914 with the 7th Bn. [Robin Hoods] Sherwood Foresters having previously served four years with the territorials; had initially been assigned the Service No.2409 but subsequently became 21018; suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder on 6 October 1915 which ultimately left him with 40% degree of disability; was still a Private at this point; formally discharged on 14 February 1917 in order to re-enlist with 25th [Works] Bn. Durham Light Infantry; later transferred to 294th Company [Prisoner of War] Labour Corps; promoted to Corporal 1 January 1919; demobilised on 24 April 1919; died at 110 Garfield Road, Radford on 14 April 1920 and buried at Basford Cemetery, Nottingham on 17 April 1920.
