Arthur John Walter Raynor

Arthur John Walter Raynor was the son of Robert Raynor and Caroline [Carrie] Simpson Livesey who married at Nottingham in 1884. Their six children were: Gertrude Minnie (b.1884), Mary Ethel (b.1886), Frank Edmund H. (b.1893), Robert Charles B. (b.1895), Arthur John Walter (b.1898) and George James R. (b.1901). All the children were born in the Mansfield registration district. The Raynors lived at: 1 Clumber Street, Mansfield [C.1891 & C.1901]. On 28 October 1906 Caroline Raynor died at Nottingham aged 44. Robert Raynor could be found living with two of his sons at 48 Wool Alley, Barker Gate, Nottingham. He worked for himself as a butcher [C.1891]; butcher and cake dealer [C.1901]; and poultry dealer [C.1911]. On 3 May 1915 he died at Nottingham aged 53. In 1911 Arthur John Walter Raynor was living with his married sister, Gertrude Minnie Coppock and her husband at 210 Arkwright Street, Meadows. When he enlisted he gave Gertrude as his next of kin and the records indicate that 210 Arkwright Street remained her address in 1915 and 1916. However by 1918 she moved to 63 Derby Road, Nottingham and by 1920 to 4 Forest Grove Colville Street. None of the other surviving brothers and sisters lived any closer to Radford so the presumption must be she attended Radford St Peter’s Church and arranged for her brother’s name to be added to the war memorial.
