Walter Gillions Parsons was the son of Edwin Walter Parsons and Mary Elizabeth Gillions who married in the Biggleswade registration district, Bedfordshire in 1876. Their ten children were: Kate Mary M. (b.1877), Leonard John F. (b.1879), Florence Leonora (b.1880), Irene Elsie G. (b.1882), Archibald Donald (b.1883), Hilda Louise M. (b.1885), Walter Gillions (b.1887), Francis Herbert Glyn (b.1888), Colin Edmund H. (b.1891) and Hedley John F. (b.1896). For the most part these children have very different places of birth indicating that their parents moved around the country a great deal in the early part of their married life. The addresses we do have for them are: South Parade, Nottingham [C.1881]; 147 Pyebank, Sheffield [C.1891]; 180 Radford Boulevard [C.1901]; 271 Radford Boulevard, Radford [C.1911]. Sergeant Walter G. Parson’s death notice gave his parents’ address as 78a Radford Boulevard, Radford [n.e.p.17.5.1917]. Edwin Walter Parsons, who worked as a draper, died at Nottingham, aged 74, in 1923. His wife, Mary Elizabeth, had died a few months earlier, aged 72.
Sergeant Walter Gillions Parsons, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2/7th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles),he was killed in action 2nd April 1917. He is buried in Jeancourt Communal Cemetery Extension. Aisne, France.
His younger brother, Pte. Hedley John (Jack) Parsons, was killed in action with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment (Robin Hoods) on 21st March 1918 and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
