Samuel Musson

Samuel Musson was the son of Samuel Musson and Ann Kennet who married in the Radford registration district in 1867. Their children included: William (b.1868), Sabina (b.1871), John (b.1874), Emily (b.1881) and Samuel (b.1884). The Musson family lived at: 14 Duke Street, Radford [C.1881]; 20 Schooner Street, Radford [C.1891]. Samuel Musson senior, a coal miner, died aged 38, in the same year as his son, Samuel, was born. In the 1891 census his widow, Ann Musson, was working as a lace clipper & scalloper. In 1893 Ann Musson married James Charles Bull at Nottingham. In the 1901 census the couple were still living at 20 Schooner Street, Radford. The only one of Ann’s children still living with her was Samuel who was now working as a coal miner. It seems likely that James Bull died in 1903 at the age of 47. It is not clear where Ann Bull was in 1911 but Samuel Musson junior was now a Private in the Royal Marine Light Infantry based at Chatham in Kent. On 1 November 1918 Samuel Musson died at Bagthorpe Infirmary in Nottingham. His home address was given as 26 Schooner Street, Radford (the home of his unmarried sister, Sabina Musson). Buried in the General Cemetery, Nottingham, his burial record described him as a ‘sailor’. It would appear that he had been invalided out of the Royal Navy as his details were not included in the Royal Navy and Royal Marine War Graves Roll 1914-19. His mother, Ann Bull, probably died, aged 76, in 1923. His sister, Sabina Musson, never married and died at Nottingham, aged 73, in 1945.
