Frank Lea

Frank Lea was the son of Henry Lea and Mary Jane Walker who married at Nottingham in 1883. Their children included: Ada (b.1883), Thomas Henry (b.1886), Leonard (b.1889), Henry (b.1891), Elsie (b.1895) and Frank (b.1896). Henry Lea had previously been married to Elizabeth Simons [Radford registration district - 1879]. They had one child, Harriett Alice Lea (b.1880). Elizabeth Lea died aged 23 in 1882 prompting Henry Lea to marry Mary Jane Walker. The Lea family lived at 7 Regents Place, Bloomsgrove Street, Radford [C.1891]; 10 Althorp Street, Radford [C.1901]. In 1900 Henry Lea, an overlooker in a twist factory, died aged 44. So Mary Jane Lea listed herself as a widow, working as a charwoman, in the 1901 census. In 1902 she married John Elliott at Nottingham. In 1911 Mary Jane Elliott, her sons, Leonard and Frank Lea, can all be found living with her married daughter, Ada Eatherington and her husband Harry, at 4 George Yard, Trinity Square, Nottingham [C.1911]; where John Elliott might have been living is unclear. In Frank Lea’s Army papers his mother’s address is given as: 4 Glaskin Place, Denman Street, Radford [Army records/1915 & 1919]. She was to die at Nottingham in 1921 aged 66.
