Elijah Elliott

Elijah Elliott was the son of Henry Elliott and Emma Lineker who married at Southwell in 1873. Their children included: Robert (b.1874), Harry (1878), Hosea (b.1880), George (b.1884), Elijah (b.1886) and Florence Gertrude (1892). Emma already had a daughter, Harriet (b.1868), before she married Henry Elliott. The family clearly moved around quite a bit given the children’s places of birth: Newark, Nottingham, Basford, Southwell and Grantham. The addresses identified for the Elliott family are: 19 Botany, Mansfield [C.1881]; 6 Broad Street, Manthorpe cum Little Gonerby, Lincs. [C.1891]; 8 Enfield Street, Hyson Green [C.1901]. Emma Elliott is believed to have died at Nottingham, aged 53, in 1905. Henry Elliott cannot be located in the 1911 census. It is likely that he died at Nottingham, aged 61, in 1913. By trade he was a basket maker. On 3 July 1909 Elijah Elliott married Mary Ann Banner at Radford St Peter’s Church. They had four children: Elizabeth (b.1910/d.1912), Florence Gertrude (b.1911/d.1912), Elijah (b.1913) and Elsie M. (b.1914). In the 1911 census the Elliott family were living at 20 Bedford Square, Hyson Green [C1911]. This was also the address given for his widow when Elijah Elliott’s death notice was placed in the local newspaper [n.e.p.21.12.1914]. His widow married Daniel Searcy at Nottingham in 1916. She died at Nottingham, aged 62, in 1952.
