Family History

Bernard Herbert Boseley was born in 1899 he was the son of William Henry Boseley a general labourer and Euphemia Boseley néé Hewitt who married in Nottingham in 1884. They had four children who were: William Henry (b.1888, killed in action 15/2/1916), Elizabeth Annie (b.1894), Albert Frank (1897) and Bernard Herbert (b.1899); all of whom were born in Nottingham. Their home was 31 St Paul’s Street, Radford [C.1901 & CWGC]. William Henry Boseley who worked as a general labourer died aged 56 in 1913 while Euphemia Boseley died in Nottingham aged 73 in 1938.

Military History

Sixteen year-old Pte. Bernard Herbert Boseley, enlisted at Nottingham on 11th November 1914 giving a false age of 19 years and 61 days, he stated he was a dyer by trade, he was posted to the King's Own Yorkshire Light infantry. On 9th November 1914 he was discharged from the Army being under age, his discharge address was 31 St Pauls Street. He later re enlisted and served with the 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), He landed in France on 28th February 1915 . His battalion was involved in fighting in the Ypres Salient, and he was seriously wounded on 18th August 1915 . He died the same day at No 10 Casualty clearing station and was buried at Lijssenthoek Military cemetery, near Ypres.
