Norwell - St Laurence

St Laurence, Norwell, Nottinghamshire, NG23 6JT. The war memorial was dedicated in 1921. Dedication: '1914-1919. Erected by public subscription in memory of (names) who counted not their lives dear unto themselves, but died that we might live in righteousness, truth and peace.' The south face of the memorial, which had been left blank, was used to commemorate men from the parish who died in the Second World War and also a man who died in Malaya in 1952. Norwell Parish Heritage Group has researched the history of men from the village who died in both world wars and with the support of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund produced a resource pack for the staff and children of Norwell Church of England Primary School, 'Norwell in Wartime, World War I and World War II' (c.2011).
