Family History

Tom Edgar Bennett was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a cotton yarn agent and the late Constance Bennett née Smith of 158 London Road, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1839 at Notingham, his mother Constance Smith was born in 1842 at Stepney, London, she died in 1905 aged 63 yrs,they were married on 1st October 1870 at Tower Hamlets they had 4 children. In the 1911 census the family were living at 158 London Road, Nottingham, John 72 yrs is a widowere and a cotton yarn agent, he is living with his children, Annie Constance 39 yrs, John Henry 34 yrs a lace warehouseman and Tom Edgar 28 yrs an electrical engineer.

Military History

Private Tom Edgar Bennett enlisted at Chesterfield he served with 'D' Coy 1/6th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. Killed in action on 28th June 1915 he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (Panel 39 and 41)
