Edwin John Nicholson was born in 1884 at Harby, the son of John and Mary Nicholson (née Newton). His father John was born in 1845 at Harby. John died in 1898 aged 53. His mother Mary Newton was born in 1849 at Ruskington. John and Mary were married on 5th September 1872 at Ruskington and had the following children who were all born in Harby: Margaret Mary b1873, Albert Charles b1876, Lillian Annie b1877, Robert b1880, Ethel b1882, Edwin John b1884 and Frank Richard b1888.

Military History

Y 50th Trench Mortar By Royal Field Artillery. Gunner Edwin John Nicholson enlisted at Willesden, London, and served with the 50th trench mortar battery Royal Field Artillery. Edwin was taken as a prisoner of war and died on 18th September 1918 at D'Ercy Mortiers, France, He is buried at Chauny Communal Cemetery British Extension, Aisne, France (grave ref 5.G.4).
