Military History

In France from 28 June 1915. Awarded 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Killed in the attack on Gommecourt on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, and buried Foncquevillers Military Cemetery (grave ref I.L.37). He shares a grave with Private PRS Coppock, Lincolnshire Regiment (1 July 1916) and a soldier believed to be Private WH Cope, RAMC (1 July 1916). Part of the battalion's Lewis gun detachment.
