Family History

Henry Bartlett Russell known as Harry was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Herbert Arthur Russell a railway navvy and Susan Russell née Sulley of 33 Flewitt Street, Nottingham. His father Herbert Arthur was born in 1869 at Nottingham, he died in 1909 aged 40 yrs, his mother Susan Sulley was born in 1870 at Nottingham, they were married on 16th May 1891 at Nottingham, they had 8 children 1 of whom died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Meynall Street, Nottingham, Susan Russell 41 yrs is a widow and lace hand, she is living with her children, Henry 17 yrs a telephone worker, William 15 yrs out of work, Emma 13 yrs, Herbert 9 yrs and Cyril 3 yrs of age. Henry Russell married Frances Elizabeth Sunderland on 16th February 1918 at Emmanuel Church, Nottingham at this time he was a serving soldier, they lived at 43 Festus Street, Nottingham. Commencing 31st March 19191 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.

Military History

Corporal Henry Russell enlisted at Aston, Staffordshire, he served with the 8th battalion Sherwood Forester Regiment, he was killed in action on 29th September 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated at Vis-En Artois Memorial, France.
