Family History

He was the son of William and Emily Anderson who at the time of the 1911 census were living at 47 Virginia Street, Nottingham (off Bath Street). William (42) was a lace dresser and he and Emily (46) had been married for 17 years; they had two children, Edward, aged 13 (b. 1898) and Clara Annie, aged 1.

Military History

He enlisted in the Territorial Force some time between 28 April and 11 May 1914. He served in France from 25 February 1915 and was killed in action during the attack on Gommecourt. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Awarded 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
