Family History

Arthur was born in 1895, the eldest child of William and Annie Worsdale. In 1901 William (38), a packing case dealer (own account) was living with his wife (32) and their two children, Arthur (6) and Ethel M. (2) at 6 Forest Street, Nottingham. By 1911 William and Annie had moved to 4 March Street, Nottingham, and had five children all of whom were still living at home; Arthur, Ethel, George Harold (9), Doris (4) and John (1). William gave his occupation as general labourer/bricklayer. At the time of Arthur's death the family was living at 18 Walnut Tree Lane (East Bridgford), Nottinghamshire.

Military History

He was killed in action and is buried in Aix Noulette Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref l.F.19). He qualified for the British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 19 July 1917: ‘Worsdale. Killed in action June 30th, Private A Worsdale Sherwood Foresters, 18 Walnut Tree Lane, son of Mr and Mrs Worsdale, age 22. Mother, father, sisters, brothers, Ethel, Doris, Harold [George Harold] and Jacky[John].’ His sole legatee was his mother, Annie.
