John Thomas Stockton was born in 1878 he was baptised on 3rd February 1878 at Whittington, he was the son of John (born 1852 Chesterfield) and Sarah Ann Templeman (born 1855 Bourne) he had a brother George born 1876, Nottingham. John Thomas married Emily Drury (born 16th February 1870) in 1907 their marriage was recorded in the Poplar, London Registration district. Emily brought a child to their marriage, Harriett Emma Parker born 13th May 1903 at Boston, Lincolnshire, the family lived at 148 Derby Road, Nottingham In 1911 the family were living at 148 Derby Road, Nottingham, John Thomas is 33 yrs a beer off and grocery dealer. he is living with his wife Emily Stockton 40 yrs, also at the address is Emma Parker 7 yrs of age and shown as a niece Commencing 16th October 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence.

Military History

Private John Thomas Stockton enlisted on 22nd March 1915 at Allerton, Derbyshire, giving his address as 148 Derby Road, Nottingham, he gave a false age of 34 yrs and 3 months (born in 1878 he was in fact 37 yrs of age) he was posted to the South Notts Hussars. He served at home until 2nd May 1916 when he joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force. He served overseas until 1st May 1916 when he was returned to England with bronchitis and asthma. He was discharged from the Army on 1st March 1916 and was awarded a Silver war badge number 68542, he died on 5th July 1918 of influenza and pulmonary oedema.
