Family History

Harry Caldwell was born in 1885 he was the son of the late Charles a framework knitter and Alice Caldwell née Parnham and the brother of Charles George, Alice, June and John Amber Caldwell of 1 Blacks Yard, Houndsgate Nottingham In 1891 they lived at 13 Hose Court Nottingham and in 1901 at 16 Upper Eldon Street (both Nottingham). Charles was born in 1836 at Nottingham, he died in 1896 aged 60 yrs, Alice Parnham was born in 1852 at Nottingham, they were married on 1st April 1877 at St Matthews Church, Nottingham, they had 4 children, John b1891, Jane b1887, Alice 1890. In 1911 the family were living at 1 Blacks Yard, Houndsgate Nottingham, Alice Caldwell 59 yrs a widow is living with her son 20 yrs a flower hawker.

Military History

Private Harry Caldwell enlisted at Nottingham on 3rd April 1907 giving his age as 27 yrs he served in India from 7th July 1908 to 2nd October 1914. He went to France on 4th November 1914 and was killed in action, on 26th October 1916, whilst serving in the line near Trones Wood, France, during the Battle of the Somme. Commemorated: Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
