Paul Headley Johnston was born in 1897 in Nottingham he was the son of James Hunter Johnston a medical practitioner and the late Mabel Ethel Johnston née Headley of 31 Waverley Street Nottingham.His father James Hunter was born in Skipton Yorkshire in 1866 and his mother Mabel Ethel Headley was born in 1866 in Hardenhuish, Wiltshire, they were married in 1896 at Alresford, Hampshire and went on to have a further child, Ethel Katherine Headley b 1902 in Nottingham. His mother Mabel was to die prior to the 1911 census, In the 1911 census the family are living at 31 Waverley Street, Nottingham and are shown as James Hunter Johnston 45 yrs a widow a medical practitioner, he is living with his children Paul Headley Johnston 13 yrs a scholar and Ethel Katherine Headley Johnston 9 yrs a scholar, also living at the address are two servants, Mabel Simons 26 yrs a cook and housekeeper and Kate Harrison 18 yrs a domestic servant.Paul Headley Johnston's probate was proven on 4th April 1919 in Nottingham and shows him as Paul Headley Johnston of 25 Arboretum Street, Nottingham, Lieutenant in HM Army, died 12th June 1918 in France, his effects of £288, 2 shillings and 7 pence were left to Thomas Davis Pryce , surgeon.
Lieutenant Paul Headley Johnston was commissioned to Second Lieutenant into the 74th brigade Royal Field Artillery, his commissioned was gazetted on 26th August 1916 .He died of his wounds on 11th June 1918 and is buried in Bac Du Sud British Cemetery Grave Reference: I E 31
