Albert Rowland was the son of Albert and Elizabeth Hutchinson (née Crawley). His father Albert (b. 1876) was the son of Rowland and Emma Hutchinson (née Holland m. 1868) who had three other children: Rowland b. 1869 d. 1892, Ernest Frederick b. 1871 and Emma b. 1874. Rowland snr. who in 1881 was a frame smith (stocking machine) was managing director of the Surgical Hosiery Co. Ltd. by 1901. Albert and Elizabeth were married at Sneinton St Luke in October 1896 and had two sons: Albert Rowland birth registered 1897 (J/F/M) and Ernest b. 1899. The couple were living separately by 1901. Elizabeth and their two sons were living at 1 Wray Terrace, Clarence Street, Nottingham. Albert, a surgical hosiery maker, was living with his parents at 3 Byron Villas, Colwick. Also in the household was their granddaughter, Mabel Hutchinson, who was probably the daughter of their late son Rowland and his wife Louisa (née Simmons m. 1889). By the time of the 1911 Census, both Albert and his brother Ernest, along with their cousin Mabel Hutchinson, were living with their paternal grandparents, Rowland and Emma Hutchinson, at 24 Tennyson Street, Nottingham. Their father Albert has not yet been traced on the 1911 Census and had probably emigrated to Australia, possibly in 1908, and his son Ernest (16), a surgical hosiery hand, joined him in 1916, sailing from London on 2 June (SS Orontes) for Melbourne. At the time of Albert's death in 1917 his mother Elizabeth was living at 82 Winchester Street, Sherwood. His grandfather Rowland Hutchinson died in March 1920 and his grandmother Emma in March 1921.
