He was the son of Mary Ann Burgess and the brother of Hilda Charlotte and John Albert Victor Burgess. In 1911 they lived at 20 Whitechapel Street Old Basford Nottingham.
Pte. Gordon William Burgess, 14th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, was killed in action on 27th September 1915, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial Dud Corner Panels 106 and 107
Report published in the Nottingham Daily Express 7th November 1915 :- MISSING SINCE LOOS. “Private G. W. Burgess, of the Durham Light Infantry, and a Nottingham man, whose parents live at 53a, Portland-road. Private Burgess has been missing since September 25th, when he took part in the battle of Loss.
