Charles Palmer Antill was born in 1891 at Radford and was the only son of the late Charles(senior) Antill a railway worker and Sarah Jane Antill née Palmer of, 7 Wildman Street. Nottingham. His father Charles (senior) was born in 1846 in Spondon and died in 1909 at Nottingham aged 62 yrs, his mother Sarah Jane Palmer was born in 1855 at Nottingham they were married in 1890, their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration District, they had a further child a daughter Mary b1893 at Nottingham.
Private Charles Palmer Antill enlisted at Nottingham, at he end of 1915, he initially served with the service number 3551 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was twice wounded and was serving with the 11th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers when he was killed in action on 20th September 1917, he is buried in Hooge Crater Cemetery (grave ref XX.G.15)
War obituary, All Saints Church News, November 1917: 'Charles Palmer Antill, 7 Wildman Street, Private Northumberland Fusiliers, enlisted at the end of 1915, twice wounded, fought at the Somme, killed in action September 20th 1917, aged 26. The only son of his widowed mother, was in All Saints choir as a boy, was prepared for confirmation by Mr Windley and subsequently he went to St Mary’s church.'
