Family History

Thomas William Jubb was born in Gonalston in 1892 and was christened there on 18th September 1892 at St Laurences Church .He was the son of Charles a labourer and Eliza Ann Jubb née Foster . His father Charles was born in 1864 in North Clifton, his mother was born in 1868 in Lowdham, they were married on 16th May 1892 in St Marys Church in Lowdham. They had three children , however two died in infancy or early childhood prior to 1911 , leaving Thomas their only surviving son. In the 1911 census the family are shown as living on Main Street, Lowdham and are shown as Charles 46rs a labourer and Eliza 43 yrs , they are living with their son Thomas William 18 yrs a groom gardener.

Military History

Private Thomas William Jubb, enlisted on 5th March 1912 in Southwell he was 19yrs an 6 months old and served with the 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment. He landed in France on 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action on 30th July 1915. He is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
