Arthur Edward Faulkner was born on 24th September 1896 in Lowdham and was the son of Joseph and Emma Faulkner née Stableford of Lowdham His father Joseph was born in 1863 in Upton and his mother Emma Stableford was born in 1864 in Wartnaby, Leicestershire, they were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Melton Mowbray registration district. They went on to have the following additional children Joseph Henry b 1889 and Elizabeth Ellen Faulkner b1891. In the 1911 census the family are living at Lowdham village and are shown as Joseph 47 yrs a nurseryman's labourer, he is living with his wife Emma 46 yrs and their children, Elizabeth 20 yrs a paper maker and Arthur E 14 yrs a nurseryman labourer.
Private Arthur Edward Faulkner, enlisted at Lowdham and served with 2/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, he was killed in action 27th April 1917. He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial.Pier & Face 10C 10D & 11A
In memoriam published 27th April 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “FAULKNER. – In loving memory of my dear son, Pte. Arthur E. Faulker, Lowdham, killed in action, in France, April 27th, 1917. Cherished memories. – Sadly missed by his loving mother, sisters, and brother Joseph (in France), and brothers-in-law.” In memoriam published 28th April 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “FAULKNER. – In loving memory of Arthur E. Faulkner, of Lowdham, killed in action in France on April 27th, 1917.
