He was the son of George and Harriett Allen and the brother of Elizabeth and Ada Winifred Allen. In 1901 they lived at 15 Sherbrooke Road Nottingham and by 1911 at Clifton Nottingham. In 1911 Frederick was living with his sister Elizabeth Tempest and her husband Amos at 9 Sherbrooke Terrace Carrington Nottingham.
