Family History

Thomas Alfred Bray was born on 26th December 1898 at Stapleford and was the only son of William a railway carpenter and Minnie Gertrude Bray née Woodley of Gonalston Lane, Lowdham, Nottinghamshire. His father William was born in 1875 at Bulwell and his mother Minnie Gertrude Woodley was born in 1876 at Kentish Town, London, they were married on 17th January 1898 at he parish church at Sandiacre, Derbyshire, they went on to have a further child a daughter Grave born in 1913 at Lowdham. In the 1911 census the family are living at Rose Cottage, Southwell Road, Lowdham and are shown as William 36 yrs a railway carpenter, he is living with his wife Minnie 35 yrs and their son Thomas 12 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Thomas Alfred Bray enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 5330 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) He was killed in action on 20th March 1918 whilst serving with the 2nd battalion Royal Scots Regiment and is buried at Gouy-en-Artois Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France.
