Family History

Reginald was born in 1899 at Penryn, Cornwall and was the son of William Bishop a farmer and Ellen Eliza Bishop née Beech. His father William was born in 1860 in Penryn and died in 1912, his mother Ellen Eliza was born in 1867 at Penryn, she died in Cornwall in 1937, they married in Cornwall in 1882. They had a further 3 children , William Henry b1875 Penryn, Eliazbeth Grace b1883 Penryn and John Jury b1889 in Penryn In the 1911 census the family are living at Helston Road, Penryn and are shown as Wiliam , 50 yrs a farmer , he is living with his wife Eliza 50 yrs and two of their sons John Jury 21 yrs a fitter in a foundry and Reginald George 12 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Reginald enlisted on 28th February 1917, at Hucknall, he gave his age as 17 years and 10 months , his place of birth as Penryn, Cornwall, he was living at Lyndhurst, Nottingham Road, Lowdham and was a student of fruit growing , his religion was given as non conformist and his next of kin as his mother Ellen Eliza Bishop, 82 Helston Road, Penryn, Cornwall. He was placed into the reserves the following day 29th February. Following his 18th birthday in April , he was mobilised on 16th May 1917 and joined the army at Derby Depot of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and had a medical at Derby the following day, he was then placed into the training reserve on 19th May 1917. On 30th March 1918 he was transferred to the West Yorkshire Regiment and on 5th April 1918 joined his battalion in the field. On 17th September he was killed in action , he was buried in Trefcon British Cemetery, Caulain Court, France.
