Family History

Leslie Toyne Hyde was the only son of Mrs Ellen Hyde and the late John Toyne Hyde,( was manager of a gentleman’s outfitter in Nottingham.) of 81 Lamartine Street, St Ann's, Nottingham, His father John Toyne was born in 1864 in Utterley, Lincolnshire and died in 1904 aged 40 yrs his mother Ellen Knight was born in 1865 in Nottingham they were married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district. In the 1911 census he is living at 2 Berkeley Street, Nottingham, he is shown as being 21 yrs of age , single and a manager of a clothier and tailors Leslie Toyne married Adeliza Shelton on 25th October 1913 at Holme Pierpoint, they lived at Sidney Grove, Radcliffe on Trent, they had two daughters Desley Adel born 1914 and Mildred Shelton born 1916 both were born at Radcliffe on Trent Following his death his widow Adeliza was awarded a pension of 19 shillings and 6 pence which commenced on 19th November 1921.

Military History

Lance Corporal Leslie Toyne Hyde attested on 8th December 1915, at Nottingham he gave his age as 26 yrs and 9 months, his address as Sidney Grove, Radcliffe on Trent , he was a tailor and clothier manager, his next of kin was his wife Adeliza of the same address. He was posted to the reserves on 9th December 1915 and mobilised on 25th May 1916, he was posted to the Army Service Corp Horse Transport. He was discharged from the Army on 8th August 1919 no longer physically fit for service having served 3 years, 244 days he saw no service overseas. He died on 10th November 1920 of a carcinoma of the colon and is buried at Radcliffe on Trent Cemetery on 13th November 1920.

Extra Information

His widow, Adeliza and their two daughters emigrated to Canada in 1924, with financial assistance from the Government. Adeliza’s parents, Henry and Annie, and brothers, William and Henry, were already living in Edmonton, Alberta. Adeliza married Samuel McClelland in 1929 and was living in 1963 in Calgary
