Samuel Richard Cammack was born on 15th January 1892 in Boston, Lincolnshire and was the only child of Samuel and Catherine Cammack née Sharp of Lowdham. his father Samuel was born in 1859 Barking Essex and his mother Catherine Sharp was born in 1863 in Frampton, Lincs they were married in 1890 in Boston, Lincolnshire. His mother Catherine died in in 1892 in Boston she was 28 years of age. his father later re married to a Hannah Elizabeth Land in Derby in in 1896. In the 1911 census the family are living in Lowdham village and are shown as Samuel Cammack 52 yrs an advertisement clerk, he is living with his second wife Hannah Elizabeth 52 yrs and their son Samuel Richard 19yrs an apprentice warehouseman
Corporal Samuel Richard Cammack, enlisted at Nottingham on 3rd September 1914 giving his age as 22 yrs and 232 days and his occupation as that of a warehouseman. He served with the Leicestershire Regiment, and was posted to the 8th battalion on 24th September 1914. He embarked from Folkstone on 29th July 1915 to join the British Expeditionary Force in France. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 30th October 1915 and to Corporal on 3rd April 1917. He was posted to the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment on 26th June 1918. He died of wounds on 7th November 1918. He is buried in Berlaimont Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France. grave reference A.12
In memoriam published 7th November 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “CAMMACK. – In loving memory of Corpl. S. R.
